One Small Scrap

The American Cancer Society hosts the “Great American Smokeout” on the third Thursday each November to encourage smokers to quit. Today is the Great American Smokeout of 2015 and I was invited by a friend to join her blog series, “An Author’s Journey,” to tell a short version of my journey to quit smoking and become a published author. Happy Birthday Gerald

Just over a week ago, I shared a photo of my great-grandfather, Doctor Eugene “Doc” Sims. Yesterday, his son, Gerald Sims, celebrated his 100th birthday. Gerald served in World War II as a crew chief for the North American B-25 Mitchell bomber in the U.S. Army Air Corps. This is my great-uncle — my grandmother’s brother — and I could tell many great stories of his further accomplishments when he returned home. I suppose I would need to write a book. Cyber Monday

It’s “Cyber Monday”, a day promoted by online retailers as “the” day to shop online. Stay safe as you browse for specials and keep in mind the age-old adage, “If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.” I am working late today and waiving my advertised $15 minimum fee, so if you run into trouble as you shop, please don’t pull out your hair; pick up the phone and call regardless of the time of day —or night.
