Just over a week ago, I shared a photo of my great-grandfather, Doctor Eugene “Doc” Sims. Yesterday, his son, Gerald Sims, celebrated his 100th birthday.
Gerald served in World War II as a crew chief for the North American B-25 Mitchell bomber in the U.S. Army Air Corps. This is my great-uncle — my grandmother’s brother — and I could tell many great stories of his further accomplishments when he returned home. I suppose I would need to write a book. He never ceases to amaze me. For example, several times this past year I saw him working in the yard, mowing the lawn and tending his vineyard. At the age of 99! He is truly an inspiration to many. Happy 100th birthday, Uncle Gerald!
