Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is adware?

ANSWER: Adware generally refers to a computer program or programs that display advertising.

Some adware programs are not particularly malicious in nature. The user is told ahead of time that they will view advertisements in exchange for using the software. This may seem to be a fair trade at times when a true freeware program that is comparable can not be located.

Other types of adware programs are very malicious. They actually should be considered spyware as well because they target you with ads based upon your Internet browsing. This practice is unethical and programs which do this should be avoided like the plague.

BOTTOM LINE: When in doubt, call EarlsHelpDesk. The number is in the banner at the top of each page. Don't wait until the problems get worse. There may be a lot more at stake than just a slow computer.
