Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is a virus?

ANSWER: A computer virus is a program or programs which can reproduce and infect other files with a copy of itself. These days, most virus scanning software also target many forms of malware.
In addition, the term is often misused to include programs which are malicious but are not capable of reproduction.

BOTTOM LINE: If you think you may have a virus or other bad software installed on your computer, call EarlsHelpDesk. The number is in the banner at the top of each page. Don't wait until the problems get worse. Most viruses reproduce unless they run out of room to do so. At that point your computer might not even start up.
