Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is a browser?

ANSWER: Relating to the computer, the word browser is most commonly used to refer to the software that is being used to view web pages on the Internet.

Two common browsers are Internet Explorer and Firefox.

There are also many other browsers that can be used to view web sites including some that are distributed by different Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to people using their service. Examples of this type of browser include America Online and Earthlink. One drawback to using a browser provided through the ISP is that if you change your Internet service it can often be a chore to keep e-mails and the list of sites that you like to visit.
